The winners of the Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year Awards 2007 were announced at a dinner at Rudding Park in Harrogate.
The awards, which seek to recognise the key contribution and exceptional performance of the region's top FDs in the rapidly changing world of business, are now an established event on the Yorkshire calendar and known as the leading competition of its kind in the region. Barclays Bank, Ernst & Young, financial recruitment specialist Sewell Moorhouse, and international law firm Hammonds sponsor the awards.
This year there were five award categories, which are outlined below together with details of the winners:
- Best Finance Director of a Plc – Julie Hale (Broker Network Holdings plc, Harrogate)
- Best Finance Director of a Ltd Company - Mark Johnston, Kingfield Heath in Sheffield
- Best Finance Director of an Small to Medium Enterprise (up to £15m turnover) - Carole Bright, Progress Group in Dewsbury
- Young Finance Director of the Year (up to 35 years of age) - Oliver Lightowlers, Spice Plc in Morley near Leeds
- Outstanding Achievement Award - Robin Litten, Scarborough Building Society
Guests at the awards, which are now in their sixth year, were entertained by Monty Halls who is an ex-Royal Marine and marine biologist come-TV presenter with his tales of exploration in some of the most demanding environments on land and at sea.
Monty Halls said, “I was really impressed with the high calibre of the candidates. A common theme amongst the winners was their effective leadership skills, ability to motivate teams under stress and how to maintain goals in a challenging environment. My preconceptions about FDs have been completely altered after tonight!”
