Pictured here at the Doncaster Rovers ground is Graham Myers, collecting his prize bottle of champagne and £750 cheque from Nigel Brewster, Regional Director of Sewell Moorhouse, Doncaster. Graham won first prize in the Sewell Moorhouse ‘Think You Know Football’ Competition, which this year attracted over 750 entries.
Graham, Group Financial Controller of Croda International Plc, was delighted with his prize and is generously donating £500 of his winnings to his son’s cricket club who are raising funds for new practice nets.
Graham said “I monitored the season’s progress closely in relation to my entry in the competition and - despite early hopes - I'd given up hope of any sort of prize, let alone winning. So the call to tell me I'd won came as a very pleasant surprise and will stand to benefit our local cricket club, Wheldrake, who are raising money to build some all weather nets - primarily for the juniors, and to whom I've donated most of the prize money."
At the start of the 2005-06 season, competition entrants had to predict the teams finishing in the top three and bottom three of the top two English Football Divisions, and they have since followed their progress throughout the season online at www.sewellm.co.uk.
The competition was closely fought to the end and Graham clinched the lead by just one point. Second place and a cheque for £125 went to Adrian Yates, Finance Director at Pullman Fleet Services, with Ian Lawrence of Mowlem and Daryl Midgley of PKF finishing in joint third place and also collecting cheques for £125.
Nigel Brewster of Sewell Moorhouse said “This year’s Think You Know Football competition has been a huge success. Now in its third year the contest generates a huge following. It’s great for promoting team spirit in the office and we get fantastic feedback from everyone involved. We’re already gearing up for next season’s competition and are anticipating over 1000 entries for the 2006-07 season”.
The competition is open to the finance community across Yorkshire and surrounding regions, so don’t miss the opportunity to enter next season’s competition. Once again, there’s £1000 of prize money on offer, and all you have to do is accurately predict the teams you think will finish in the top three and bottom three of the top two English Football Divisions. Entry is free, and once you have applied, Sewell Moorhouse will email you once a month throughout the season with a progress report. Each month’s table topper will win a bottle of champagne.
