Here is the place to be!

Well, this all seems very good, but just stop and think for a minute…

Well, now is maybe the time for our area to stand up and shout from the roof tops that we, here in South Yorkshire are seeing some brilliant success stories from our traditional industries and are generally bucking the trend. At the start of the year Sewell Moorhouse opened its new engineering recruitment division and the results have been nothing short of unbelievable. We have been overwhelmed by the response from all sizes of business that are crying out for quality staff within their engineering teams. Many of our clients are not only achieving great success in the local area but have clients and orders from all over the world.

One of the biggest and most successful deals in the North recently was a traditional Sheffield business making them one of the leading suppliers throughout the world within their market, and another great point is that one of the key people at the top of that business is a Sheffield man who qualified in Sheffield and has carved out a career to the very top level in the area.

From the recruitment side we are finding the same in engineering as we have over the years in finance; that is that there are many excellent opportunities on our doorstep for those who are prepared to look outside the box and believe the challenges are there.

As the summer holidays approach it is an excellent time to reflect on the above and look at your own situation and what you are currently achieving work wise. It is often easy to shy away from the job market when the outside world seems to be focusing on the downside but the brave and bullish can often make a real difference at times like this. Businesses are looking for energy and problem solving individuals when recruiting and people who truly believe they can make the business move forward. This applies to all disciplines in the work place and this approach must be worked on before you even enter the job market.

Look at what your skills are and how you can make a difference and be able to effectively deliver this in an interview process. The job market is no longer straight forward and the people who approach the whole process need to look at what the market is doing.

So I guess the message this month is enjoy your summer holiday but do take time to reflect on all the good going on and if you find yourself in the job market remember there are lots of excellent opportunities within the area that may well be the next challenge you are looking for!!!
