Grasp the opportunity

‘Is now a good time to be looking for a job?’ is something that is often asked in times of change and instability? Well, there is certainly not a standard answer as every one and every business is different. There is certainly a trend that happens every time and it is something that all career minded individuals should take note of. When there is movement in business whether positive or not it always opens doors that could just be the opportunity you are looking for.

When change comes a lot of people in businesses assume that the new role will be filled by an external candidate and they will be more qualified than them. Well, yet again we are seeing a number of excellent opportunities being filled by internal candidates who are taking themselves out of the comfort zone and making things happen. The people who are taking up the new roles are the ones who are open with their bosses and the ones who are not hiding awaCliff Sewelly in these tough times. They are standing up and saying count me in to the challenge and I want to be part of the future where ever that may take us. This type of internal movement also has a positive impact on the rest of the business. It makes it clear that opportunities are there for people within the businesses and that certainly gives a feel good factor across the teams. This is something we have worked hard on in our business and 90 % of our senior team have come from within.

I must however point out that this does not mean that all the roles are going internal, good candidates in the market are finding excellent opportunities and are making it happen for them. There are still businesses out there that are seeing this challenging market place as an opportunity to grasp new opportunities and they are looking for new ideas and energetic individuals with different skills that they can bring in to help complement the current team.

The reality is however that people are losing their jobs in the current market but this is not a time for despair; we work across a range of disciplines in the area and we are still seeing a strong number of opportunities arising.
